Check-In and Check-Out Times

Check-in time is 3:00 PM; check-out time is 11:00 AM.  If you anticipate arriving for check-in later than 10:00 PM, please let us know by calling or texting our front desk at 231-268-0441 or drop an email to frontdesk@clearwatermackinaw.com.

Cancellation Policy

It has been brought to my attention that the cancellation policy is only visible when you book a room, so here it is: Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the 3:00 PM check-in time on your arrival date. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will result in a charge of 1 night’s stay.

Smoking Policy

In order to protect our indoor air quality and contribute to the health and well-being of our guests and staff, we maintain a smoke-free environment in all buildings including the balconies, common areas, and within 20 feet of any exterior doorway.   If  smoking occurs in a room, the guest will be charged a $250 cleaning fee to cover the expense and effort required to return the room to a smoke free condition.

Pets

Pets are not allowed on the property.

Minimum Age

Minimum age to book and check in to a room is 21.

Breakfast

All of our rooms include complimentary continental breakfast.

Access To Our Lakefront

Only registered guests of the Clearwater are permitted on our property, unless prior approval is obtained from Clearwater Lakeshore Motel management.

Overbooking Policy

The standard practice in the lodging industry is to overbook rooms by a certain percentage in order to assure that cancellations and no-shows do not negatively impact maximum occupancy during peak periods.  At the Clearwater Lakeshore Motel, we do NOT overbook rooms.  If you have a reservation with us, I guarantee that when you arrive  we will have the specific type of room  that you booked available.  On the rare occasion when a room is not available due to maintenance  reasons (say for instance the AC is not working), we will do our very best to arrange a similar room for you at another Mackinaw City property at the same price.

DND (Do Not Disturb)

There has been some recent confusion about “Do Not Disturb/Maid Service Requested” door signs. Due to the issues caused by this confusion, we now have one-sided signs that only say “Do Not Disturb.”

“Do Not Disturb” (henceforth “DND”) is a binary state. The default state, 0, in which there is no DND sign hanging on your door for our housekeepers to see, is “Maid Service Requested.” If you are staying over another night as opposed to checking out, a housekeeper will enter your room and reload it with fresh towels, toiletries, etc. as well as do some light cleaning and make the bed(s), with this caveat: our housekeepers do not touch personal items. Therefore, if you leave a purse on the bed, the bed will not be made as this would require a housekeeper to pick up the purse, which they will not do.

The “1” state in this scenario is when you hang the Do Not Disturb sign on your door for our housekeepers to see. Once you do this, you have become “DND” (as in “404 is DND”) and no person on our staff will enter your room including me and I own the place. This means that if you leave the DND sign on your door and go to Mackinac Island for the day, when you return your room will be in the exact state it was in when you departed. We will of course bring you fresh towels and other supplies if you call the front desk, but in the evening there are no housekeepers on site to clean rooms.

It’s perfectly acceptable to be DND in the morning if you desire some privacy, then take down the DND sign in the early afternoon when you go out for the day, thus returning you to the default state of “Maid Service Requested.” Our housekeepers specifically check for this before they leave for the day, which is usually not later than 3:00 PM. To be on the safe side, if you require maid service, you should probably take down the DND sign by 1:00 PM.
